Most buyer's remorse in this market has the same cause: the decision was made on the sales page rather than against a defined need.
This guide is the checklist we run before recommending anything, reduced to something you can use in ten minutes.
Start with the job, not the product
Write down the specific task you want removed or improved, in one sentence. If you cannot, the purchase is exploratory — which is fine, provided you price it that way.
Separate the demo from the workflow
Demos show the best-case first result. Ask what the fifth use looks like: the repeated task, not the novelty.
Check what you already own
- Does an existing subscription cover 70% of this?
- Is there a free tier that would prove the value first?
- Would a one-off purchase beat another monthly fee?
Read the licence and the limits
- Commercial use terms for anything you monetise
- Usage caps — credits, render minutes, seats
- Export and data portability if you later leave
Price the total, not the launch offer
Introductory pricing is a real benefit, but the relevant number is what you will pay in month twelve at your actual usage.
Decide your exit before you buy
Set a date and a measurable outcome. If the outcome has not appeared by then, cancel without renegotiating with yourself.
